Tandoori Seer Fish Wraps

My brother in law once brought me this big chunk of Seer fish. Seer Fish has a  white meaty flesh and is really great used in curries and for grilling, as it holds its shape, its a lot like tuna and sword fish.

I didn't want to make a curry and was looking around the kitchen when I noticed a packet of tandoori  spice mix.  So I made a tandoori spiced fish , a lot like making tandoori chicken, marinating the fish and then placing in a hot oven to cook. If you are having a barbecue or grill then just  pop them on it.

Recipe: Tandoori Seer Fish Wraps

Serves about 3 , depends on appetite

About 250-300g of Seer fish, also known as Kurumas locally, skinned and bones removed

For the Marinade : 2 tsp tandoori spice mix
                               3 tbsp plain yoghurt
                               3 fat cloves of garlic
                              1/2 " ginger, grated
                              1 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
1 tbsp oil ( vegetable oil)
                               1/2 tsp salt
3 -4 bamboo skewers or metal skewers

Salad : 1 carrot, grated
3 kopee fai ( or Kale ), finely shredded
           1 small onion, thinly sliced
juice of  a cheek of lime
           salt
extra plain yogurt
6 plain cooked flat bread, such as pita pockets, roshi,  or chapatti

First prepare the fish. Skin and cut the fish into bite size cubes.  Set a side. In a bowl, mix  marinating ingredients , and add the fish cubes and mix well, leave to marinate for a few hours.
If using bamboo skewers , soak them in hot water for a few hours. This prevents them from burning if you are going to put them in the grill or barbie.

Now using the coarse side of the grater, grate the carrots, and finely shred the Kopee fai into a bowl. Add the onion slices and set aside.

When its about an hour to serve, heat up your barbie or your oven , if using the oven  you want a really hot oven.  Place a piece of foil on   a baking sheet, and then skewer the fish piece in to the bamboo or metal skewers and place them over the baking tray.  Pop in oven ( middle shelf ) and then cook for about  20  minutes. Fish doesn't take long to cook and you want nice and moist pieces of fish not hard and dry. , turn the skewers around half way during cooking time and make sure the oven  or barbie is hot before you put them in .

Now to serve, serve the salad, dressed with the lime juice and salt just before serving , warm flat bread and fish and yogurt. To assemble, just place a flat bread, add salad and crumble some fish add a dollop of yogurt if you like , roll up and enjoy.  !
