Zebra Cake
The first time I saw this cake being made was in a Loraine Pascale's cooking show. I never realized it was such an easy recipe. The boys love to make this with me although the finished result isn't as neat but still has the wow effect. I love slicing into the cake and taking the first slice and still get excited when I see the dark brown and white lines.
The recipe is taken from Lorraine Pascal's website here. I have searched all over youtube for the video but couldn't find one.
When building the cake, start with a spoonful of vanilla, in the middle of the baking tray, then drop a chocolate batter spoon full in the middle of the vanilla batter.
Continue like this till all the batter is used up

Favorite with my kids. Best to slice in front of guests for extra effect.
Ingredients:
250 ml sunflower or corn oil
250g caster sugar ( or use regular sugar if you don't have any)
100ml milk
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
300g self-raising flour, ( I made mine at home following this recipe )
1 tsp baking powder
25g cocoa powder
grated zest of an orange ( about 1/2 tsp)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 180 Degrees C. Lightly butter and line an 8-inch round pan. Set aside.
- Place sugar and eggs in a bowl and mix well with a whisk. Add oil, milk, and vanilla and beat well with a whisk.
- Pour 400 ml of the mixture into another bowl.
- Now sift 175g of self-raising flour and a half teaspoon of baking powder into this bowl, containing the 400 ml of batter. This is your vanilla mixture
- In to the remaining batter left, sift in 125 g of self-raising flour, half teaspoon of baking powder and cocoa powder. Stir in orange zest.
- Now into the prepared baking pan, add a tablespoon of vanilla batter in the middle, then add a tablespoon of chocolate batter on to the middle of the vanilla batter.Keep repeating like this until both batters are used up.
- Place the pan in the oven and bake for 40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the cake.Remove from the oven. Remove the cake to a cooling rack and cool completely before slicing.
